Reluctantly offered for sale is my Steinberger L2.

Very good overall condition for a 30 year old, minimal fret wear, some pitting to face of the pickups, light scratching to the body surface from use, but no cracks, gouges or chips.

Complete with plug-in leg rest, original bag, original strap, string locking screws (can use standard or double ball ends) and allen keys (probably not original). Bag and strap are a little grubby, and although they have never been allowed to get damp during my ownership, have what appear to be some historic mould spots. The bass is not affected in any way.

Straight neck with approx 1.5mm relief, plays beautifully, no bridge, saddle or claw issues. Pickups & circuitry work well, pots still nice and tight.

Dave

NOW SOLD, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INTEREST!

Bump for a wonderful instrument and (I reckon) an unequaled example of the industrial designer's art.

And yes, a genuine rarity - especially as it still has its plug-in leg rest (a far more satisfying design than the folding thing on the later XL basses). Actually it's such a rarity that I wonder if its my old one. Did you buy it from a music shop in the Wandsworth/Clapham area Dave?

If I had £1500 to drop on a bass currently in the Basschat classifieds it'd be this one.

Hi Phil

Thanks for the complimentary words. It didn't come from Wandsworth though - the previous owner was in Kent. Are you sure I can't persuade you to treat yourself?? :yarr:

I used to own an unlined fretless L2 from the first year of production. Was my only bass for years but had to sell it to raise funds. Cool instrument.

Played a lined fretless back in the '80s and was stunned by the tone and bags of 'mwah'. Would still like one. An ULF XL2A recently went for £3200 so the OP's price for this L2 is a steal! Have another bump!

Thanks Stacker! An XL2a went for £3200?? Maybe I've undervalued my L2 then! Quick, someone buy it before I change my mind! :D
