TRBboy Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Spotted these recently, and it seems to make perfect sense, in fact I don't know why string sets haven't always been put together following this logic! http://www.daddario.com/balanced_tension.page Has anyone tried them yet? Is there actually a noticeable difference to a normal D'addario set? There's no 5 string sets at the moment, but at £16.00 a set from stringbusters you could put a single B string with them and the whole set would only come in at £24.00, so not too bad. Thoughts? iiipopes Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Going back to the OP -- why haven't sets been made like this before? Answer -- arc of the fingerboard over a flat topped pickup. The D and A strings were made larger so that, being ever so slightly farther away from the pickup pole pieces, they would need more mass to induce a signal of similar strength as the G and E strings being closer to the pickup, to maintain tonal balance. Now, pickups are made with arced pole pieces, and, of course, a P-bass pickup is completely adjustable, so now the string sets can be made for feel as well as tone. Quote
