lurksalot Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I bought a 'violin' type bass recently. mainly cos a) a hohner violin was my first bass it is really light weight and short scale that my 11 year old daughter could use it C) with a hollow body she could play it and hear it without amplification . she prefers my Spector legend 4 though I hope you get sorted soon . Mr. Foxen Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Look up a Mo Clifton. He injured himself and made basses to suit. Quote
BobVbass Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Here you go Mel, why not try one of these as discussed http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-Bronco-Bass-/111033869291?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item19da2263eb If you like it you can upgrade to a mustang - Alan Lancaster a playing one at hammersmith last week and it sounded so awesome I've even looking at one myself. If it's a bit far I'm sure we can arrange a delivery relay Quote
karlfer Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013
I don't know how you are fixed financially, but Jon Letts basses are wonderfully light and I'm sure he could work something out for you.
I've seen Alain@s Letts bass and it is stunning! Weighs about the same as a neutron (ok that's not accurate but you get the point!) Quote
martthebass Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I would say this but.....Status Streamline. 7lbs, comfy neck, low action, zero neck dive. Oh and it sounds good too, in my pack other basses have come and gone...... Quote
phlebas Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Couple of kids I teach have the short scale flea bass. They're really not half bad basses It's dirt cheap, super light, the action is low and they sound pretty decent. Worth a look? A nice soapbar pickup would drop in there and sound wicked. http://www.thomann.de/gb/flea_bass_junior_the_wild_one.htm Quote
Prime_BASS Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I would talk to Shep (pantherairsoft) about your issues. You need to try and fix some of your own inherent issues and possible bad technique before searching for the one bass. At the minute finding something that works will be impossible. If you fancy taking the long road up to notts I'm sure he'll be more than happy to let you try his roscoe too. Quote

stingrayPete1977 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Not read all the thread Mel but has anyone suggested a 5 string SGC Nanyo Bass Collection? Nice P tones and J tones from the PJ setup Very light and very comfortable with a smallish body but not to the extremes of the Hohner etc Good preamp overcomes the small body to give the tones of a much heavier bass Build quality Fender can only dream of (contentious but true I am affraid). In some cases what were £1000 basses can be had for less than £200 but I'd pay upto £350 for a nice fiver. If you switched to five strings you could play off the E on the B string to save reaching up beyond the 5th fret so I would seriously look into it, a perfect example of why 5 strings are not all about extra notes Even if you dont want a 5 a BC is well worth hunting down, a sort of Ibanez soundgear/ yamaha but better finish etc Edited March 23, 2013 by stingrayPete1977 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013
You could get somebody to make a torzal twist neck like this and fit it to your precision. I doubt it would cost more than the cost of a new medium range bass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLi8pOa6zYk
That looks brilliant Quote
