Simple guide to strings

Hi, can anyone give me a very brief run down on strings, as this seems to be a bit of a mine field

There's a pinned thread in the Miscelaneous gear section. It's a 3 page thread so hardly a brief rundown'. Good place to start though i'd say. Think there are some fairly concise posts near the beginning! Good luck!

Not very brief, granted, but it's a big subject and extremely subjective.

If you ask something more specific, like 'I really like the bass sound on Live At Leeds, how did he do it?' or 'should I use tapewound strings for reggae?' you'll get shorter answers.

OK, I mean what sort of music do you play? Who do you think sounds good?

To be honest though, for everyone who loves Brand X string and would use no other, there's another player who'd prefer to string his bass up with barbed wire. Just type 'Rotosound' into the search engine and see how many people hate my favourite string ;-)

Bass player did a special on strings with lot's of reviews last year I think...or maybe the year before can't remember..........see if you find the article on their home page. I will see if can find the issue and scan it and share it with you.
