lowlandtrees
Luthiers (or them that know) out there..........my studio where I keep my precious (es)....is damned cold at night. I am sure it goes below freezing regularly. How good is that for my instruments. I turn the heating on every evening and tune them as often as I can.. I have seen them a half tone tight. A bit concerned about the wood n glue in my DB, the thin neck on my Rick and acoustic Gees.
discreet
Bring them indoors? Move a bit further south?
flyfisher
I'd guess that constant cycling of temperature would be more harmful than constant cold.
Bigjas
Cold temperatures do not affect timber, its differences in moisture content of timber that causes it to move/swell/shrink. The biggest problem is condensation forming with the constant warming and cooling in your studio. It probably wouldn't affect the timber components as they are usually sealed with a lacquer or oil, but anything metalic will have moisture forming on it. I keep my instruments in my house where there is a fairly regular temperature. Jas
