Ant_On_Bass
Basically I want to play the song Disposition by Tool, I love the haunting feel to it, however I have a stumbling block being the bass whammy. I don't particularly want to spend £300 on a bass whammy just for playing Tool stuff now and again so I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative or any clones made? From what ive read he uses a 5th octave up setting, which doesn't appear to be on the guitar version of the digitech. Any help would be much appreciated. dudewheresmybass
If it is just a 5th up ( I'm no tool fan- never really listened to them!) there is the boss ps6 which could be set to gliss to a fifth up or down at the press of the switch. Iirc the whammy 4 will do a fifth move as a harmony, but a slide would have to be done by ear on the octave slide setting
Ant_On_Bass
Sorry I think I may have worded that wrong it's a 5th/octave up setting that he uses. I just watched a video on YouTube of someone covering it with a boss GT6B I don't think it's the exact settings but sounds good enough to me :-)
Ant_On_Bass
Oh and thanks for the reply :-)
bobbass4k
The XP-100 whammy has the 5th/octave up harmony mode that he uses for Disposition, mine works a treat. The xp-100 has a lot more modes too, apparently the bass whammy sounds better, but to be honest I think that assessment is usually made by people who've spent the equivalent of a half-decent car on a bass whammy. Mine is one of my essential pedals, they can be had for < £100, in fact I think someone's selling one in the classifieds at the moment. dannybuoy
The cheap Digitech multi-fx have the whammy effects in them but not sure if they have that specific mode. Anyone tried them?
Sibob
Yeah the Boss PS-6 has a momentary 'whammy' esque feature. It's exactly why I got one, for a small-footprint whammy. Cheers Si
Ant
i programmed this setting onto my line6 m5 and it sounds awesome (need an expression pedal)

Kev
Iv just sold a xp100 mate, shame you didn't ask this about a week ago! It will do the tool thing, worth looking for one
Ant_On_Bass
Haha yeah always the way! i may now go for the M5 now though :-)
lxxwj
I have a couple complaints with the XP100: Firstly, it sounds really digital. Secondly, it 'lags' a little when you actually play. The note comes out a little bit after you actually play it. This might not bug some people, but for me, I just can't stand playing through something like that. Can't offer an opinion on the M5, however.
GarethFlatlands
The M5 was on sale at fxpedal.co.uk recently for about £95 so well worth a punt. I only use the octave settings on guitar so can't say how it works on bass but you can program the heel/toe expression pedal intervals pretty easily. iamtheelvy
I don't particularly want to spend £300 on a bass whammy just for playing Tool stuff now and again
Sadly, you'd be pretty lucky to bag a Bass Whammy for £
Ant_On_Bass
I'm suprised behringer didn't try to clone the digitech bass whammy.
