Big_Stu Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Only got the one............ haven't any gut shots but will do when it gets worked on - hopefully soon. It's as I bought it except for a couple of replacement pre-amp valves & I had a Bulgin put back in - it had some kind of multi-socket connection when I got it. Loving your Ashton - never seen one of those before!!!! Quote
irvined Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Hi, Here's my ancient Sound City 120 top, still working. Swapped out now for a TC BG250 as it's just too heavy to cart around. Cheers, Doug Quote
stu_g Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 here are a couple my old laney aor 50 great amp had to sell it due to lack of funds and second is this 1974 carlsbro tc60 i picked this up a couple of months ago it was advertised as faulty but on arrival the seller informed me it was the output jack on his guitar that was at fault Quote
VTypeV4 Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 I had a Sound City 120 but it was the 'Energizer 120' which was simply a power amp unit. With it's 6 x EL34 and huge transformers, it was massively powerful and was capable of hurting speakers. A true monster! I'd love to try your amp, doug, looks to be a lovely example.. Stu, shame you had to sell the Laney but that Carlsboro looks a lovely (and no doubt heavy) little monster.. Quote
irvined Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Hi, I'm in Bicester (Oxfordshire) Send me a PM if you want to come over. A couple of internal pictures. Cheers, Doug Quote
VTypeV4 Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 Thanks for the offer, I might well take you up on that! Interesting that the chassis is configured different than mine was. Your valves looks to be 'in a row' whereas mine was '3 + 3'.. I'm gonna take some pics and get some more chassis / valve shots this afternoon. Quote
Enegergizer slaves were in a totally different box to the 120 PAs and heads, its the size of the 50w boxes, and bit more point to point going on inside. Without a preamp, you can put everything closer together without noise worries. Here's my rig, and guitar rig, correctly proportioned: Quote
The Bass Doc Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Nice set of Burmans there. I was recently offered one of those heads and have since mislaid the guy's number Will try to upload pics of my Wallace in the foreseeable. Quote

Roland Rock Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Red Iron 100W A bit of an odd one, I had this made by Red Iron (Texas) in 2005. It originally had a different wooden case, which I decided I didn't like, so I made my own. A mains transformer went pop around 2009, so I took it to John Chambers (Champ Electronics, Nottingham) where he made a replacement one (the silver one in the middle) and some other tweaks while he had it on the bench. It has 2 x 6SL7s (Tung Sol) and 2 x KT88s (JJ) and I love the tone Quote

VTypeV4 Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) Roland, I read about your amp on Johns site! Fantastic! Thanks for the S/C info Mr F. Nice Burmans by the way, what are they a modded bassman type design? Real nice compact setup with that Matamp although I bet it still roars! Edited March 22, 2013 by VTypeV4 Quote

The 3 knob channel has a Fender type tone stack with a fixed mid, the gain channel has an active mid which is a separate circuit to the bass and treble controls, the 3 stage gain control gives massive scope for colours of gain, and its without noise even with silly distortion. Much more a no expense spared sort of design and build rather than the cheapest end of good enough like Fender. Quote

bartelby Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Here's my little Guya Tone amp from the 60s that my boss gave me. Needs to have some work as the reverb nor tremolo work... Quote

Rumple Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I picked this old Selmer Keyboard head up from a mates Dad, it doesn't get used but I'd like to do something with it one day. Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Since a couple of guitar amps have snuck in, I thought I'd stick up a couple of pictures of my home built job. It's based on a Fender Princeton Reverb - it does about 15 watts with a pair of 6v6s, and is in a birch ply cabinet which I tried to make as light as possible. My lead dress isn't up to the standards of the really good stuff like Hiwatt yet, but it works just fine. Quote
