Here's my Hiwatt PA Custom - I bought it more than 30 years ago and it was used as a PA amp, but also used as my bass amp, and has been used recently after many years of neglect.
I only started using it as a bass amp when we moved house a few years ago and rescued it from the back of the garage. I took it to Mark Huss in fife and he quite rightly gave me a polite telling off as it was a fine example of an early '70's valve amp. Although built as a PA amp , it would work perfectly well for guitar or bass- and it does!!

It recently got a PAT pass - the electrician was impressed/amused by this antique .

My little 15 water that I built from a kit 12 or so years ago and just pressed back into service this week after a bit of TLC in the solder dept.

Apologies for the poor quality tablet photos.

EDIT: Anorak time; single ended, Class A, 12AX7 in the preamp, 6L6 in the output section, cathode biased.

Hi, I've Got a Laney lb100, had it for many years now. the covering is not original but had it checked out by an enthusiastic friend who said
Hi Rich, I put a spare valve in it and it works fine, hardly a crackle on any of the knobs as well , bonus !! I added 2 more nuts and bolts into the vacant chassis mounting holes.
Sounds nice with a guitar albeit a bit heavy on the bottom end , but it is a bass amp. I observe it’s cathode biased which means when you put new valves in you don’t need to re-bias it.
All the tranys look original, there has been some work done on it, a line out added at some point and various minor components replaced.
I emailed Laney with some pix and asked them to date it. So far their tech guy says it’s before ’72/73 . Curious if anyone out there has any knowledge of this amp?

Isn't the LB the linebacker and solid state? If it is valve and 100w (from the name) it is pretty unlikely to be cathode bias, 4 EL34 give something fair bit less than that in cathode bias. Might just not have a bias pot, older laneys tended not to.

Also, obligatory valve amp pic:

Looks like a Hiwatt and a Vampower had offspring.

Some pics as promised. would like to know more about this amp sound reliability etc, any one ever used one or maybe you still are?

Certainly a proper valve amp. Are we sure its a Laney?

Ah, LB will be lead/bass then. Think its the pre supergroup one, but the back panel info is missing, does it have 2 or 3 impedance options, 3 is Supergroup. Reliability is down to being teched and good valves. If it hasn't been sorted, blowing up is pretty imminent. Also they will eat poor modern valves.

Yes defiantly a Laney circa 72/73 according to one of the techs at Laney. the stamp embossed on the back is LB141 100w.

I would love to know more about some of the old models of Laney. It seems that various enthusiasts have documented just about everything Jim Marshall's company ever turned out, but there doesn't seem to be any equivalent for Laney. I still have a couple of old bass amps (solid state, sorry!) that have been long since obsolete but I can't find any information on them - particularly my old Session 40 Bassman, which I bought second-hand and would love to know the approximate age of!

Series of amps laney made, pretty much a marshall circuit, but with better transformers. good amps, one of the most desirable old Laneys, because they were used by Black Sabbath.

OK it's ugly and heavy but sounds superb. My Wallace AC5075XT:-

Built around 1969. 2 x KT88s.

In the early 70s when I was young and fit I used to gig a stereo wired bass into two AC100XTs (a lot bigger and heavier!) plus two Burman 4x12s.
do you have more pictures of the wallace? I've heard great things about them!

All these "boutique" amps are making me feel very happy about my wiring haha

The valvey good bits inside my Trace Twin Valve, it's had a bit of a dust out today. The pair of PM 6550s that do the biz can clearly be seen. Not a valve brand I'm familiar with but they sound great in this application.
