Salt on your Bass? Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I'll post up the full rig once up but this Retro Six Ten has just arrived so will be using it with my 400w Laney Nexus Tube. Should be putting it through its paces Monday night at rehearsal Quote
mikeswals Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 jensenmann, the 400 is still a little glassier in the top end...that old Fender-ish tube amp chacter. The mids are very similar and have the unmistakable Mesa mid-forward gritty sound. But the Strategy is capable of far more low end than my 400, and way more volume. Voice setting #1 is the closest to the original 400 sound. Quote
jensenmann Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks, Mike. The 400 is still on my wishlist after having it played only once many years ago. But they are hard to come by, at least here in Germany. Quote

chevy-stu Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Got an early 90's Mesa 400+ I've had about 15 years, with matching old EV loaded 410, and a Marshall VBA400 I've had as spare for about 10 years...... I'll get some pics up.. (Due to size/weight I use the Orange 1000 Terror for most gigs now... . ) Quote

Nice amp and pretty comprehensive rear panel offering balanced ins and outs plus independant level controls. It makes a claimed 60w / Ch at 4, 8 or 16 ohms. I expected the output transformers to be a little larger but they they're a slightly funny shape so maybe that is a factor. Anyways, it sounds sweet and is in good heath. Quote

Twincam Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Some fantastic amps. My little 25w Traynor looks a bit pathetic in comparison. Although it's perfect for in the house and more than capable of pissing off the neighbours. Has a great sound although oddly enough I prefer it open backed, still has plenty of bass. All 100% original at the min although I'm servicing it soon as possible. markstuk Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 My new home practice rig.. :-) I love it so far... Quote
Beedster Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 With the passing of my SVT-300 now my big rig. 100w but louder than most 500w solid state heads. Tone to die for. Nearly sold it a couple of times but for various reasons neither sale happened. Fate appears to want me to keep this rig Quote

I used to have a '64 Mk1 and it was awesome, even for bass. I still don't understand why Selmer decided to flip that chassis upside down in '65. Maybe to copy Fender Quote
VTypeV4 Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 I always liked the idea of a V4 Ampeg although they do seem thin on the ground these days.. I'm none too fussed for the re-issue model but the one featured above is pretty cool.. Quote

davedave Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I've had that one a couple of years now. A friend tipped me off about another one for sale that was in pretty rough condition aesthetically. When I went to pick it up it turned out to have the consecutive serial to this one. On the power amp at least. The one pictured belonged to Budgie apparently. There's no providence though. Quote
