I'd be grateful for advice on the small crack on the neck (see photos). Is this likely to be a serious concern?
chrismuzz
It does look like tightening the truss rod might cause the crack to get bigger...But I've seen instruments that have had headstocks completely snapped off, repaired to the point where they're stronger than they were before the break! I'm sure a luthier could sort that out for you with some epoxy and a clamp, which will probably make the crack completely invisible too. nelville
Thanks very much for your reply. I think I've been put off bidding for it as a repair sound expensive?
Stacker
Well, if you got it done by luthier/repairman, it could be. Depends how cosmetic you want this repair to be. I'd fill it, clamp and the seal it. Up to you, then, if you want to put some poly over it and sand but I guess from your concerns you might not be confident of doind such. karlfer
Patience is a rare virtue These are neither uncommon or expensive basses. You may find it less costly to wait for another one to come up that doesn't have concerns. It may cost you £100 to buy this one then £100 to fix it. It may cost you £150 for a nigh on perfect one delivered. Don't forget Gumtree and Preloved. Good luck, Karl.
