Baxter
I Play in a Northern Soul Covers Band. Favorite basslines? For playing my favourites would be Just can't Get enough of you by The Apollas, If Thats What You Wanted by Frank Bellamy and the Butlers. Trickiest is Music to my Heart by Patti Austin (im not that keen on funky stuff), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7J1TQejOOg heres a classic done by us, a few years ago now - we're getting some new stuff done. Jazzneck
Can someone tell me what "Northern Soul" is, please?
lojo
It's the name of a certain style of music which was DJ'd at some soul clubs such as the Wigan casino, google it. Some great music comes under its umbrella, I used to collect 45s associated with it.
Jazzneck
Ah - you mean SOUL MUSIC a la Tamla Motown, Stax etc.......... like wot we used listen to, dance to and play in the mid 1960s.

TheGreek
Just love this... Just realised that this sounds like a Kazoo or comb/tissue paper.. I'm sure this is an old video - early 70s?? - but check out the hair style of the black fella at 2.20 who seems to be at least 15 years before his time.... Baxter
Ha Ha, I was gigging last night and we played You been gone too long and turning my heartbeat up -which is out set closer. Happy Jack, its a mostly live recording with overdubs - just done by ourselves and a mac and firewire. Lojo, what do you want to know, we're an 8 piece out of Paisley, all bar one are old Mods and scooterists so we know our northern onions! Mick hucknalls song is a disgrace and I reckon he's ripped off Double cookin' on the piano line.

Jazzneck
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh-2_kdVcyA Played this once at a wedding in Dorset. I was there as a guest of the brides parents and got pulled up to play bass on one number and this was it. We all had downed a few sherberts and it was fantastic - it was groovin', laid back and cool - loads of space.... Don't know who the band was, only that it was a great moment in my musical life. 4 Strings
Can I play (would like to keep this moving as its a great subject!)? Here's one, a good song but the outstanding performance is the bass. http://youtu.be/xwvpeYiQwss
