tommorichards
well, i got some jazz pickups made by MEC, and i checked for a resistance. Its about 62k. Thats pretty high, yeah? I assume they are active as well as they have a red wire. So, is this a normal resistance? and why that hot?
warwickhunt
I'm not techie minded to be able to discuss the resistance of pups etc. but if they are the 'active' MEC's (as opposed to some of the cheaper passives) then they have a preamp built into the pup which requires juice to operate... could that account for what you have measured? MarkBassChat
If they are active (and it looks like they are), you are not measuring the resistance of the pickup but just a resistor on the output of the preamp. Mark
tommorichards
lovely. this knowledge has now been stored into the brain for future reference regarding active pickups.
