Marvin Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I've been watching a Steve Vai live vid, and there he is stood on a bit of Axminster. Same when I watched a John Mayer vid recently everybody had a rug. What is it with the carpet??? Quote
chris_b Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Ego. The star gets the carpet and the bass player usually gets floor boards. We know our place. Quote
bigd1 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 It's so you can keep the bottom of your shoes clean, and to make you look a cock. Quote
flyfisher Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 It's how they get their tone. The pile depth is critical. Quote

bigd1 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Yep Greg Lake did & still does stand on his own bit of roll end Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I could be wrong here, but onVan Halens latest/ last tour Dave lee Roth had his zone marked out with carpet. ( or similar) .eddie vh had his space etc. yeah ego/ territorial issues ,) Quote

bertbass Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Our drummer takes and uses a carpet at gigs. I always thought that it was to stop his drums from moving but now I'm not too sure. Perhaps he's making a statement. Quote

Back on topic, apparently Steve Howe had his as a territorial thing - happy bunch Yes!! Quote
Dingus Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Nearly all big time professional touring bands have carpet . I first noticed it in the early 1980s , but at that time I just thought it was rockstar affectation . There must be a reason for it , probably to do with the stages or something similar . Quote
discreet Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) It helps stop reflections that cause feedback; it covers cables and stage seams so you don't trip over anything and fall on your arse; it recreates the same ambience at each venue on a tour; and it looks good! Jazzneck Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Discreet has got it right again and it also stops you slidin' forwards on them slopey stages too. Quote
Chortle etc I did set fire to a pub in Baildon by knocking one of our par cans on to the carpet. I'd have thought there should be fire regs about flammable carpets in a public place. It was a shithole anyway and nobody actually died..... well , not until the following morning. Serves them right , going out in a shell suit for christs sake. Quote
