What are the Jam Nights?
Jam Nights! are an event we hold every 2 weeks to give local bands the opportunty (incorrect spelling - sic) to perform live on a regular basis. Whether you're a regular performing band at your local pub, a band starting out looking for some live experience or simply enjoy performing as a band just for the fun of it, everyone is welcome!

It's open to all genres, all bands, all musical artists.
Registrations are a must and all registrations must be listed on our ★ Band Directory to be given the opportunity to play. Sets range from 4-8 songs depending on the location. Plus, you're also welcome to sell your merchandise at the Jam Nights! (…and you keep all the profits!)

We are soon to be running Jam Nights! all over the UK, search the band directory by county to find the next Jam Night! near you!

Sorry - but is this everyone else's understanding of what a Jam Night is?!?! or, are the hosts (landlords, clubs etc) getting a bit more fussy about who/what attends.............?

Discuss. :D

This looks like someone trying to make a business out of it. Another version of pay-to-play? I wonder what they are going to charge?

There are already plenty of existing jams and open mic nights in this area.

A drummer friend has started a web site giving information about the jams in the Surrey and Hants area. He also a Facebook page.

Individual musicians and, in some most cases, complete bands are welcome to come and perform at no cost. If you are on you own the organiser will team you up with other musicians to form a band to play 3 or 4 songs. The usual problem is trying to find something that everyone knows.

The house band provide the backline and usually get paid by the Landlord.

We have both the Jam nights where it really is a jam, put your name down for bass and get thrown on with who ever to play something (I like these) and we also have ones similar to that in the advert where it is more of a showcase 3 or 4 songs by set groups. If you have 20-30 people waiting to have a jam then I find it hard to watch one person take up 20 mins on their own as a solo artist, there are plenty of open mics more suitable for folky one at a time performers IMO. I lost interest with proper jams after every one I have been too usually involves the idea that each regular bassist brings their amp every say 5-6 weeks, I have no issue with that but it normally turned out my week most weeks as the others were "stuck at work" "ill" "running late" etc but always managed to get there about 30 mins after all my gear was setup. The last local jam someone started and I agreed to the 1 in 6 week idea I think I did 4 weeks then the jam folded anyway! Back OT what I was getting at is that if someone is going to setup the whole thing other than your bass/guitar/drum sticks and vocal chords I can see what an arse that would be every week/month.

Doesn't sound like a jam as I understand it.

Seems more like the Hertford Corn Exchange, which hosts something called 'Sunday Live' during the winter months where 3 or 4 local bands can play as a band for a 45 minute set. They provide a sound engineer, PA & lighting, no one is charged to play and entry is also free. We've found it a good way of testing out new material.
