Samashton12 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Hi Guys. So I've decided to spread my wings and diversify my tastes in music to help my bass playing become more versatile. (instead of listening and playing the same old rock stuff) Lately ive become transfixed on Jazz and Jaco Pastorius.. his technique and tone amazes me, Can anyone recommend me some other Jazz artists or Jazz bass players i should check out? Thanks, Sam. Quote
Cyrene Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Dave Holland & Michael Henderson on early electric Miles should do the trick. Also Ron Carter playing electric on Miles in the Sky's 'Stuff' as well as with other artists c.1968-70 Quote
thisnameistaken Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 The jazz players who interest me are all upright players, so Paul Chambers, Charles Mingus, Ray Brown, Scott La Faro, Milt Hinton, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden, etc. All of the bebop stuff features clever bass. Stuff that I can't do anyway. Quote
Bilbo Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 There is a thread on here called God...I love Jazz that carries dozens of recomendations. Type 'wheeler'in the search box and you will find it. Quote
toneknob Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 If you like Weather Report, check out later Zawinul band material like "Vienna Nights" with Linley Marthe. Quote
toneknob Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 And Chick Corea/Return To Forever has been as much a school of bassists as has Zawinul and Weather Report. I like the early latin-flavoured material and the Chick Corea Elektric Band. ("Space" and "Blue Miles" from "Paint The World" are in my current band's repertoire) Quote
