marcus bell
After receiving a new sub series stingray and absolutely loving it I'm really hankering after a really old stingray I.e pre eb... Anyone got anymore information on these? As in what sort of money they go for, what problems to look out for etc...
Lynottfan
There is a superb 77 Ray for sale on the forum at the moment, about £2k and it is a beauty, there are several ebmm and pre-ebmm guys on this site that I am sure will help you. I am a Stingray man myself and I think that off the rack there is no better made bass in the world imho. Also try www.musicmanbass.org great website for Stingray stuff. dafonky
Hi check out the truss rod, and the preamp....a lot of old preamps ( 76 and 77) are burning down.... personally, i prefer late 79 models with non-epoxy preamp and the bigger neck version ....( less problems with the neck ) in fact , i NEVER had a pre ernie with the bigger neck making any problems. The slimmer neck version on pre ernies sometimes have neck problems... Leo was using 5-6 different preamp models, there are several pre ernies around which sound very strange due to the different preamps used I am selling 1-2 79' stingrays , so PM me for further details .
