KennysFord Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 hey all. does any one have experience with nickel half rounds ??? i just fitted a set and they feel very sticky.im just wondering if they'll play in or is that the way they are. thanks in advance. Quote
john_the_bass Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Which ones have you got? I've had a set of ENR71 (I think that's the code) on my P bass for probably a year now, maybe more and never found them to be sticky at all. Quote
KennysFord Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 thanks for the reply, yeah, they're ENR71's. sticky might not be the correct word, its like your fingers feel some resistance when you try to slide up the neck or from note to note. is it me ?? Quote
bigjohn Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I always find TI flats sticky for about a week. After that I love em. Before that I hate them! Quote
KennysFord Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 hehe, i just took TI flats of to try these,i know what you mean with them.i'll "stick" with 'em and see how they go.nice midrange on D'addario's tho'. Quote
Huge Hands Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I have had the same experience with both the unknown flats on my upright, and Labella flats I recently put on my Cort. It almost feels to me as though they have a thin plastic or rubber coating on them which gets grippy as my fingers cause friction? I'm probably talkin b*****ks, but that's what it feels like. Quote

Made a really bad mistake of changing my strings a coupla days before going into a studio a few months back. Was horrible! Quote
The Burpster Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Pete, they are like that for a while. Its the sharp edges where the round wire has been ground down. It does help if you wipe 'em down (hard) with an alcohol soaked rag before you put them on. Some D'add strings seem to have a 'packing grease' type lube on them from new which is also sticky but muckey as well.... Quote
BigRedX Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I couldn't get on with these strings at all. I think they lasted a couple of weeks before I swapped them for TI Jazz flats. Quote
KennysFord Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 thanks guys. i'll stick with em for a while. they do feel very grippy though. bob, i gave them the wotfor with fast fret and they were slightly better.i know what you mean though, you can feel the sharp edges where they've been through the grinder. thanks all. Waterboarder Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Ive just found the exact same thing! They sound wicked but really difficult sliding up and down - anyone know if they do free up after a while? Quote
