whynot
Hi All, I'm thinking of replacing the circuit in one of my basses as when engaged it appears to be sucking out the punch in upper strings (D, G). Lows are incredibly thick and punchy, the highs gain the usual active zing but lose any thickness that was there in passive mode. I've started using the bass in passive which I do quite like but I'm missing the option to change tone on-board. So, must be 3 band eq, active/passive option. Any suggestions welcome. whynot
Shuker's own. Pickups are Seymour Duncan MM/J.
ZenBasses
If it's one of Jons preamps it should have jumpers on the circuit itself. have you played around with this to cut and boosts the mids Jon should also tweak the frequencies for you.. Boosting or cutting to your liking.. If this issue is just with then passive side maybe it similar to the following all be it on a active bass I had a similar issue with my GB however as Jon showed me when in had it setup. The setup it had meant the string was vibrating outside of the pickup poles on some strings thus giving an uneven tone . I guess because it's in passive mode this is more noticeable. Subtleties and all Once setup it's now spot on. Just a thought hope this helps Edited April 1, 2013 by ZenBasses
whynot
I've played with the internal mid control but it's not really helping. I'm going to spend a couple of hours with it again including playing with the action and pickup height, just to eliminate everything before taking it in for some pro help. Thanks for the comments. Mr. Foxen
I'd start with the strings. Heavier ones, and a setup so they play easy.
