gsgbass
I finally got around to changing out to the Pearl PG on my Precision. Any new PG's around? I won't say how long I wanted to change to the Pearl. Edited February 15, 2015 by gsgbass
onemanband
I've recently bought a Fender Mustang "Pawn Shop" bass in Sunburst (my favourite finish) but, I just didn't like the "pearloid" pick guard. As this new model has a single (Telecaster bass) humbucker pick up rather than the old style split single coil, there are no ready made replacement pick guards available as yet, so I bought a blank sheet of three ply tortoiseshell pick guard material and made my own and am pretty pleased with the result.........much better!! discreet
[quote name='gsgbass' timestamp='1385564736' post='2289702'] I just changed out a Tort. PG to a White PG on my new Olympic White Am. paul h
Funny this thread should pop back up today... My Retrovibe is ageing really nicely and I wanted to change the scratchplate to better show that fact off. So this afternoon I had a walk to Screwfix for a can of white Plastikote! It needs a sand down and another coat to fix a few problems but other than that I'm really please how it came out Now the question is...do I paint the pick up covers too? gsgbass
Excellent taste in colors sir. I'd leave the covers in black. Just my taste though. I like the Jimi Hendrix White Strat look, even though his cover were white. Edited February 7, 2015 by gsgbass

gsgbass
I'm a real pain in the Azz about D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Taperwound Strings. I just like them, they play well, sound like flats, and are kind to the frets, and the board. They are also great for fretless boards too. They last for a long time, they don't rust, splinter metal shavings, or corrode. A good gauge size, that usually doesn't need any bridge adjustments. paul h
Plenty of paint left but I think I will leave the pup covers black. For now at least

gsgbass
I ordered a Jazz Black Pearl PG. The Fretless Jazz should be delivered Thursday, the 26th. The Tort PG comes off, and the Black Pearl goes on.

Woodinblack
I am going to get a Squier bass VI when there are any to be had, but unfortunately they all come with awful pickguards. eBay have some in the states that are white pearl which look pretty good. Are there any closer than that?

Roland Rock
My first scratchplate effort, I made this one from veneers. It's made up from four layers of mahogany veneer with alternating perpendicular layers - a kind of mini exotic plywood, and then ebony as a top layer. The bass itself is mahogany with ebony accents so I tried to keep it consistent. Bevelling the edge was a lot trickier than I had planned, but it turned out ok. Finished with Rustins Plastic Coating. gsgbass
The White PG, OLympic White body, and Maple fretboard is my favorite for a Fender. The Tort PG, does look pretty decent on a 3-Color Sunburst body, and Rosewood fretboard though. Edited November 26, 2014 by gsgbass
