SlapbassSteve Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Besides the really obvious one(Forget Me Nots in case it isn't really obvious), what other noteworthy songs did Freddie Washington play bass on? I heard a song on the radio over the weekend and recognised his slap tone instantly(exact same sound as FMN's) but had no idea what song it was, and just read somewhere he played on Somebody Else's Guy.. are there many other hidden P bass tone gems out there with his stamp on them? Dingus Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) There are loads of great examples of Ready Freddie Washington tearing it up on the Fender bass . iconic Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 He also played with steely dan...yes really! Great tone, golden era for proper hardcore funkmiesters....mark superslide adams, steve arrington, buddy hankerson, good call sir Quote
Pete Academy Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I might be wrong but I don't think he played on Somebody Else's Guy. Quote
lowdown Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) More to Freddie than slap, great playing on 'Sweet Love' from the 'Rapture' album [Posted above] Oozing feel. Does the Soul thang so well, terrific player. From the same album.[To be honest, being in the studio company of Anita Baker should be enough to make any body play great] Garry Edited April 3, 2013 by lowdown Quote

lowdown Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Over the years there has been a couple of names mentioned, Google search found this. I think there is some kind of copyright issue with the original version and Jocelyn Brown has re-recorded several versions of it to get round the current copyright holders embargo . lowdown Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 More than likely that you are correct..... It's one of those tracks i have always wanted to know who played Bass on [or any of the Musicians for that matter] Oh well, hopefully someone will come along... Carry on all. Garry Quote
obi 2 kenobi Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Yep, try "just around the corner" from Herbie Hancock. Classic slap bass track Quote
