leprechaun Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) This fine fretless I bought off Old Horse Murphy 7 months ago but I haven't used it as much as I had anticipated. It is a 1998 fretless unlined 'Ray in Amberburst with a Pau Ferro fretboard. It has an absolutely stunning birdseye maple neck and is in fantastic condition apart from a ding in the lower bout and upper edge as detailed in the photos. It will come strung with DR Sunbeams but I'll also include the LaBella flats that were on the bass when I bought it off Nick. I am looking for a sale ideally but would consider a trade for field recording gear (mics/recorders etc..) £600 Here is a link to the original thread for reference... Edit: I have added more photos of the ding. These kind of marks either bother you or they don't but they're here to see either way! The last 6 pics are the same ding from different angles. Old Horse Murphy Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 This is the best Fretless I've played. If I wasn't having a fretless neck for my P bass made by The Bass Doc, I'd take this back. Good luck with the sale
leprechaun Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Cheers Nick, I have a couple of people interested already so hopefully it shouldn't be here long!
MattM Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I have a 2EQ Ray fretless which is awesome, but had a 3EQ like this previously, it works well with fretless owing to additional mid band tweak ability.
leprechaun Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Edited to post more pics of the ding as requested...
Davebassics Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Never played a fretless musicman before, looks fantastic though. I might be in the Northeast within the next few weeks as well! tempting
martthebass Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I've had a few fretless basses, cheap and expensive but I've always come back to the Ray.....sounds superb as a fretless, hard to beat. Great price bump.
Alanbass Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 HI, can you tell me any more about the state of the fingerboard and action that you can get on the bass. please? Thanks. Alan
leprechaun Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Hi Alan, The fingerboard is in great condition, that Pau Ferro appears to be tough stuff, there's loads of life left in it. The previous owner used flats so maybe that has had something to do with it, they came off when I bought it and roundwounds went on but I've had so little opportunity to play it since they will have made no difference to the board at all. I can take some close ups of the fingerboard tomorrow if you like.
leprechaun Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Forgot about the action, I'll measure it at the 12th and let you know exactly, but low...
3below Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Staggering value for the money, damn, just spent current gas money. A great deal for someone.
marcus bell Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 If my Nate Mendel fender precision went I'd buy this in a flash
Mark_ii Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Any interest in a trade for a cracker of a wee amp. Fantastically versatile. Alanbass Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Any more info about the level of the action that you are able to get on the bass - will it go very low and is the neck stsraight or got any issues with it? cheers.
leprechaun Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 The bass is now sold, thanks for all the interest!
