philwood
Not sure if theres already a thread on this (I couldn't find one for this in particular), but I'm interested in halfwound strings. Firstly if anyone uses them and their opinions, secondly do they last longer than roundwounds and thirdly are they likely to chew a fretless fingerboard in the same way as rounds? Thanks! deepbass5
I used half wounds for years realy liked them, Roto solo bass, then could not get them for ages, but Elite ground wounds sound very good if you can find them. very impressed wth the black tape wounds on my Rob Allen wish i had tried these on my old P bass years ago. will do a lot less damage than rounds but see which sound and feel best for you. a coated round set may be good halfway house
Count Bassy
I use Status Hot-wires on a Ibanez SR505 and love them. Don't know if they last longer, or chew up a fretless less, but they feel good under the fingers and sound (to me) great.
apa
GHS Briteflats for me. Nice and smooth but still have a growl about them. They still leave a bit of a mark on the fingerboard but nothing compared to rounds. They last a bit longer than rounds but then every brand is different. I tried Roto halfrounds and hated them. Rough as nuts! A
Rumple
I have Half Wound Status Hot Wires on my SR5, Custom Fretless thingy and a Road Worn Jazz, as you can tell I'm rather fond of them
2pods
I used Roto "Solo" half rounds on my fretless for years. There was hardly any wear on a rosewood fret(less !) board.
