The Funk Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I was just thinking that it could be a laugh if we tried to put on a basschat gig or mini-festival featuring the various bands whose bassists are forum members. So, vote in the poll: good or bad idea? Quote
MythSte Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I can see exactly where your coming from, but to be honest i feel like a bit of an ass telling the rest of my band that i wanted us to play at a bass playing convention! Quote
Alpha-Dave Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I'd turn up if it was either: really easy to get to (Midlands), or worth a long drive to get to (West country/Highlands or islands of Scotland). Quote
The Funk Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 We wouldn't need to tell them that it was a bassists' convention. Just a festival. Quote
lukeward2004 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 That is a stonking idea - but we would need to hire a venue with a decent sized stage area. One decent PA system for the day and obviously we could use our own backline, but we would need somewhere big enough to accomodate storage of kit, unless people (drummers) dont mind sharing. I would definately be up for something like that! Quote
The Funk Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 I was thinking we could do it at a venue on the toilet/launchpad circuit. Hire the venue, pay the other band members and then donate our cut to the forum. Quote
neepheid Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 No chance for me. I talk better than I play. I sand better than I play. I french polish better than I play, and that's saying something Quote
MacDaddy Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Good idea in principle, but I would imagine the logistics of the thing would be a nightmare. Having said that, I'd persuade my lot to play Quote
NJW Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 crazy idea.... soooo many bands! soooo many places. If you can pull it off, i'll eat someones hat (i dont have one of my own to eat). Quote
bassboy115 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 kool idea...but it would all depend on where it is i guess! Unless you made it a weekend thing so people travelling a long way could camp?? Quote
The Funk Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 If we did it over a weekend, we could maybe split 3 nights into different groupings of styles: funk, hard-rock/metal, indie rock, with jazz in the afternoons... Hmm... Quote
Bassassin Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Maya29 would definitely be up for it - we'd play your local bus shelter for a half of warm shandy. J. Quote
funkysimon Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I'd try and get Acuphuncture to play it; ok, I'm the guitarist in that band, but the bassist is so much better than I am it's rude, so I'm sure you'd all get a kick out of it. And we need gigs. Quote
Funkmaster Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 The Welsh T Band would be up for it I'm sure. Quote
skywalker Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I don't play in a band - but I'll bring my kit just in case I can get a game!! Quote
bassboy115 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Im sure i could get my band Inertia to play if it goes ahead Quote
EntropicLqd Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I could probably get one of the bands I'm in to play. Can't vouch for the quality of the music though :/ Quote
mhuk Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 We know a bloke whose garden is the size of Glastonbury and has a natural amphitheatre in it Check some recently posted photos.... Quote
jwbassman Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 (edited) I can probably sort the jazz quintet for the afternoon slot with enough notice... Edited June 24, 2007 by jwbassman Quote
Oxblood Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Basstonbury, eh? A logistical nightmare I'm sure, but a lovely idea. Imagine a massive audience of bassheads greeting every g**tar solo with chants of "Turn it down, turn it down, turn it down...." Quote
d-basser Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Awesome plan, dunno if i will be in a band that is capable of playing but i would turn up anyway for the music and banter Quote
Kiwi Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Fantastic idea, but how many people would show up? Would bands expect payment to attend? Lots of intangibles to tie down Quote
