Basschat Mini-Festival?

I was just thinking that it could be a laugh if we tried to put on a basschat gig or mini-festival featuring the various bands whose bassists are forum members. So, vote in the poll: good or bad idea?

I can see exactly where your coming from, but to be honest i feel like a bit of an ass telling the rest of my band that i wanted us to play at a bass playing convention!

I'd turn up if it was either: really easy to get to (Midlands), or worth a long drive to get to (West country/Highlands or islands of Scotland).

We wouldn't need to tell them that it was a bassists' convention. Just a festival.

That is a stonking idea - but we would need to hire a venue with a decent sized stage area. One decent PA system for the day and obviously we could use our own backline, but we would need somewhere big enough to accomodate storage of kit, unless people (drummers) dont mind sharing.

I would definately be up for something like that!

I was thinking we could do it at a venue on the toilet/launchpad circuit. Hire the venue, pay the other band members and then donate our cut to the forum.

kool idea...but it would all depend on where it is i guess! Unless you made it a weekend thing so people travelling a long way could camp??

If we did it over a weekend, we could maybe split 3 nights into different groupings of styles: funk, hard-rock/metal, indie rock, with jazz in the afternoons... Hmm...

I'd try and get Acuphuncture to play it; ok, I'm the guitarist in that band, but the bassist is so much better than I am it's rude, so I'm sure you'd all get a kick out of it. And we need gigs.

Awesome plan, dunno if i will be in a band that is capable of playing but i would turn up anyway for the music and banter

Fantastic idea, but how many people would show up? Would bands expect payment to attend? Lots of intangibles to tie down
