A well known tune, slap bass is awesome

I'm not a fan of slap bass, no matter how technically clever, the odd pop sounds great, but I really love the use of it in this well know tune ...

I am a fan of DB but think that "Ashes" is one of the most passe songs he ever wrote - he's like the Rolling Stones, good at what he does, still putting stuff out but his stardom is based on long past & far better material.

Also - I don't like slap so apologies to the OP for an irrelevant post.

Wham - club Tropicana. Such a well known tune, and its got a slap bass solo as an intro, and some lovely little slap fills thrown in.


I really like that DB tune, he's not a favourite of mine, but I can appreciate his song writing abillity.

Love Bowie but not my favourite tune, Gail Ann Dorsey + another bass player was something I was unaware that Bowie did to be honest!

I usually hate slap bass,but in this case it's OK because it's not the usual noise-fest usually associated with that type of playing.That's actually quite melodic and understated,although why G.A.D didn't (or couldn't,which I very much doubt) play it I'll never know.I recently watched a live video of Larry Graham and Mark King on stage together.Turned it off after 30 seconds!Wodda racket!

A very good solo, great find. Had to avoid GM though, I'm afraid the very sound of him irritates me.
