gub
I am really fancying having a crack at playing a little harmonica bit in our cover of gene genie, Don't really know anything about the instrument but am I correct in thinking that you have to buy ones in different keys ? So I need to buy one in E ? Or is not that straight forward ?
tonyquipment
Chromatic I have one in the key of C I think ... Great fun. Annoys people !
2pods
Someone more versed than me will be along shortly, but I think most blues stuff (like GG) is cross harp i.e. if it's in E (as is GG), you need an A harmonica.
YouMa
It all depends what you want to play most harp players have a few, ones with slidey bars are good for blues,i warn you it involves a lot of sucking giving you a very sore throat sometimes. BassTractor
If it's The Jean Genie you mean, I seem to remember there are some (chromatic) slides there? They may originally have played with the button on a chromatic one, though I can't quite remember the technique one uses. At any rate, I feel a chromatic one is the safest bet here, unless you find out all the details of the part first. best, bert
geoffbyrne
If it's for Blues, you need the key an open 4th below the singer's key i.e. if Singer is in C, you need a G, D>A, E>B etc etc. No idea what you need for Gene Genie. G.
