urb
After seeing a load of very serious UK musos on Facebook posting links - and his 'I Saw Three Ships' video popping up on No Treble a few months back - I have to conclude that Jacob Collier is one hell of a great musician - and while his covers are getting him a lot of hits on YT, his own stuff is not a million miles from James Blake - but he seems to be heavily into jazz as well... anyway I'm sure some of you've seen this guy in action but take a moment to check out his stuff - what amazed me most is that he's from London, and studying at the Royal Academy of Music - yes he has a musical theatre background but is not some talent-show reject etc - just a stunningly gifted young musician. http://www.jacobcollier.co.uk/music/ Great bass work on these tracks and everything else too... I look forward to hearing this guy grow up and keep developing - he's 18 right now... gulp! Hope you dig some of this stuff Edited April 9, 2013 by urb

jakenewmanbass
Brilliant, I've seen him around for a while, his 'Isn't she lovely' has a fab vocal arrangement and a really nice melodica solo.

Floyd Pepper
Just been listening / watching some of the Jacob Collier songs/videos. At the risk of being controversial, I admire his musicianship and inventiveness and all the positives that come from a young musician experimenting with his art but.....the end result just leaves me a bit underwhelmed. I didn't make it through to the end of most of the songs and as much as I wanted to like it, I just couldn't imagine when I would sit back and think, I know, I want to listen to a Jacob Collier song. Horses for courses and all that but I guess I just didn't 'get it'.....or maybe I'm an old fart?
Sibob
This track, Hideaway, from his new album, is just lovely https://m.youtube.co...h?v=4v3zyPEy-Po
I've been aware of him for a while, and like a few, blown away by his ability, but just not bothered about the excess of covers. Was a little underwhelmed by the tune he did with Snarky Puppy, but still a cool collab, but just heard that Hideaway track for the first time.......that's more like it!! Genuine interest! Will explore the album Si
Sibob
That said, I've just listened to his cover of 'Close To You', and that's pretty special. Si
bornagainbass65
I saw him at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival last night and he was very impressive. Well worth seeing if you get the chance. The stage was set up with keyboards, piano, bass guitar, EUB, percussion and drum kit, and I think a lot of the crowd were amazed when just one guy came out and played them all, in almost every song, building songs up with loops and layers and backing tracks. His multi-instrumental playing isn't just a gimmick, he is awesome at all of them! He did a lot of harmonies with his novation(?) synth but also did some straight vocals. His vocal range is astonishing, from bass to some insanely high falsetto. Not always easy to work out which bits he was playing live, which bits are loops that he creates 'live', and what is pre-recorded backing. I don't know whether he will turn out to be a great songwriter but certainly an absolutely amazing musician.
Rikki1984
I just read this article - it seems relevant. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/what-to-listen-to/jacob-collier-lights-up-the-cheltenham-jazz-festival--review/ Talented guy!
AdamWoodBass
So I've finally caved and gave his album a go, been avoiding it as I didn't want to get caught up on the hype train. Properly impressed to be honest. The track Saviour is one of the filthiest grooves I've heard in a while. Thinking I might have to see this guy live! Bilbo
Deeply talented but I don't like the noise he makes. I don't like a lot of hugely popular stuff though so what the flying fcuk do I know
The Saint
I'm a bit late to the party having discovered him a couple of years ago. Slowly going through the vast collection of online videos. I found this one totally absorbing and illustrates his depth of knowledge and understanding of all things musical.
