franzbassist
Hi folks Although it can take 9V, I'd like to power my new Empress ParaEQ with the full 24V they recommend. Any suggestions? Cheers Gareth NB: Edited original post to focus on Empress, rather than daisy-chaining it at 15V with my Bassbone Edited April 10, 2013 by walbassist
JapanAxe
You could use a generic 9V supply plus the El Paso 9-15V converter from TheGigRig.
franzbassist
Thanks for that, but yowzah that's an expensive solution. I think I'll just buy a dedicated 24V PSU for the Empress and have done with it. Any recommendations for a PSU rated at 24V (130mA)?
flyfisher
In their FAQ, they recommend a Boss PSA-120 adapter, which is a 9V PSU. It makes sense for pedal manufacturers to make their gear able to work with a wide variety of PSU, and this Empress one seems to be so flexible in that regard that it doesn't even ship with a PSU on the assumption you'll already have one. The usual method is to have an internal voltage regulator that brings the input voltage down the requirements of the internal electronics. I'd be very suprised if it works any differently when powered by 24V than the 'recommended' 9V.
franzbassist
Bit of a longer chat with Dan at Empress just now, giving him some more detail, and he says 9V should be just fine for my needs.
