Sounds more like a technique issue to me; the note is mishit (mispopped?)

A nightmare up to around 50 seconds where to his credit he gives up the pop's and holds it down, tries again later and is a bit more on it and relaxed.

Guess we've all scored own goals (or at some point will) , must have been fine most of the time before, or wouldn't have got the gig

Theres no actual "bum" note as in playing the wrong one, all he did was play an extra slap/pluck and even that wasnt particularly out of time. If I wasnt for warned I probably wouldnt have even spotted it.

00:45 - obvious bum note. But I've made bigger gaffes so I can forgive him. The bass tone isn't bad either. Just the ticket in a glassy, open 80's synth mix.

BTW, it sounds as though he is playing with a pick rather than slapping, just by listening to some of the articulation on those triplets.

Yes it is Derek forbes also played with Simple Minds,The Alarm, and Spear of Destiny,
now playing with big country.
Voted Best Bass Player in the United Kingdom in 1982,
not that bad at all,a few timing bits,but who cares its live and still a great tune.
He is a very forcefull player anyway always pushing the beat,
sounds like he is doing what marcus m says... take control.
(if you want bad timing check out disco inferno !)

i think he is good player. and very down to earth.

I've always liked that tune.. hadn't heard it in ages. The studio version is really nice.
Sounds like he had a bit of trouble with the triplets here and there, I think I'd do a lot worse job of it lol. It's live cut the guy some slack and he seems to be getting into it a bit and not just standing there with his eyes glued to the fretboard,

Sounds like a slapped and popped bassline with a touch of chorus and pretty much the ideal tone for the track.

Can't see a problem.

Maybe that's why I'm neither famous nor rich.
