mikekaperys
I know this is a bass forum, but here's a guitar I've just finished building today - I intend on doing this on a bass at some point (probably a precision or V of some sort), but would like some feedback before I do. It's a alder Telecaster body covered in Faux Fur (I think?), it has a maple neck and rosewood board. It's a basically a chopped up bed throw I got from PoundStretcher stuck to the body with a very thin covering of Wilkos' contact adhesive. I stripped the guitar right back to the wood and drew around the body onto the back of the fur then cut around the body shape leaving about an 0.5" space around the body to make flaps to fold up later. Then on the back of the guitar I squeezed some of the glue evenly around the body then spread it out thin all over the back using an old plastic credit card cut in half, then just laid the fur on top and pressed down very gently (I didn't want to press too hard incase the glue soaked through the fur). I then cut into the 0.5" space I left around the body to make flaps and folded them up to the side of the body and glued them to it using the same glueing process I did for the back. I then did the same process all over again for the front, but left a smaller space for the flaps (more like 0.2" this time). Once the top had glued, I pushed a knife into the pickup and control cavities and jack socket to start the holes off, then cut the material out of the way. I cut straight into the fur for the neck pocket. I then took a cocktail stick and poked though the fur into the screw holes for the scratchplate etc, and installed the hardware. I then went around the guitar looking for anywhere the fur wasn't glued down properly and stuck it back down with a little glue on the end of a cotton bud. I just need to put some pickups in there now! I've attached some photos. Any feedback is welcomed, I'd love to know what you guys think to the idea of a furry bass. Before anyone mentions it, I know it will never be anything like ZZ Top's Cheers, Mike [attachment=132249:photo 1.JPG][attachment=132250:photo 2.JPG][attachment=132251:photo 3.JPG][attachment=132252:photo 4.JPG][attachment=132253:photo 5.JPG][attachment=132254:photo 6.JPG][attachment=132255:photo 7.JPG][attachment=132256:photo 8.JPG][attachment=132257:photo 9.JPG] Edited April 11, 2013 by mikekaperys
yepmop
If you want something novel then look no FURther than this Quite interesting, but would imagine it would stain quite easily or get sticky with sweat etc, but then again a bit of Vanish will sort that problem out. Does it dampen the sound at all?
mikekaperys
I see what you did there That was my first thought too. That's the main reason it's black, I'd have loved to do it in white or a light blue. I'll just have to be careful I'm not sure yet since there are no pickups in it, but I'd imagine so. If it does I'll possibly switch to an active set. We'll see when I have some more cash I guess
ChickenKiev
I can't help but think of ZZ Top when I see this guitar. Looks cool though .
Owen
My Double Bass told me to ask if your Tele was seeing anyone at the moment. Normally guitars are not her thing, but she said that she fancied yours.
