I have to give a shout out here for Paul at 13 Guitar Co.

Yes, I'm massively bias! But he's a great bloke, very knowledgeable and helpful, and moreover he makes some stunningly good basses (and guitars too).

Where's 13 Guitar, John Birch, Clifton, Crimson, Brian Eastwood, Eccleshall, Enfield, Everson, Fretking, Gordon Smith, Gus, JC Hamilton, Simon Lee, Legra, Rim, Andrew Scrimshaw, Sei, Doug Wilkes?

All UK luthiers making bass guitars.

And I'm sure that even that list isn't complete...

You're right. You forgot Ruach (by harleyheath).

My current favourite is Sei, followed by Status and ACG, but I've only played one Sei and I haven't played over half the ones in the poll. I'm out then.

For me it's gotta be Jon Shuker and Bernie at GB.

I must say this I must be one of the lucky ones who has has impeccable service from Mr Shuker over the years

GB however get my vote for the worst customer service I have encountered.. But that's a different story.

Re read my post and it doesn't make sense does it lol

I'll try and explain
Due to the fact that my GB IV is still the best bass I have ever played (in my opinion). I am not knocking the quality of the craftsmanship at all. So they deserve a vote...

Same way lots of people adore Jon Shukers basses but his build times can be slightly advantageous but still doesn't detract from the finished product.

:) hope that helps

I voted Overwater - my one and only experience of a custom built bass as I doubt I will ever again have the readies to buy another custom bass.

Chris and Laurence were brilliant all the way from start to finish with the build, and were great company when I met them at the shop to pick the bass up. Can't believe it's 9 years ago, and I still own it (would be gutted if I ever had to sell it).

Sorry to say this Mick, but unless you've bought or tried-out a bass from each of 3-4 I don't think you have the right to vote here... imho
I'm sure all these guys named in this forum have produced some amazing pieces of work.

Maybe some owners can post pics and reviews of some of the beauties they own? If possible with sounds or videos? After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If you can find a June 2011 copy of Bass Guitar Magazine, I wrote a four page article all about Shuker basses! :) Great to see a small company being noticed! :) - There's some old vids on my YouTube page too, but I am in the midst of planning a whole bunch of new Shuker orientated stuff.

As for pictures and stuff, here's the Shuker pics Mega Thread:

I'd planned to copy and paste the links to all of the other luthier mega threads too but I figured it'd just be easier to roam freely through the Porn forum!

I can't vote, I only know my seibass jazz 5 and the shuker neck on my franken jazz 4. the seibass is perfect for me in every detail and the shuker neck plays like a dream.

I've had basses from 2 of the list. Both had/have "issues"
One was a custom build that was already complete, the other I ordered. The service I received was top- notch. The products? Flawed.
Both were no match for my all- conquering Vigier Passion and Warwick Fortress Masterman. In fact, I'll add my Yamaha to that list.
Custom? Twice bitten. Thrice? Not today, thanks.
