Some very dodgy demo recordings here too: http://www.myspace.com/shatteredage
Hmm, quite an interesting interpretation - no 'double' voicing on acoustic part.. simondee
Love it, played in thrash covers/original band for a while, got the shirts. Though I'd never do it again, maybe a few Metallica covers for kicks. In fact, I played a good amount of 'Tallica songs for the first time in 2 and a half years just the other day, it felt quite humbling actually. When I am inspried to write metal-esque stuff, I tend to draw influence from Mudvayne and Protest the Hero, seeing as the metal side of my bass-vocabulary is a good mix between the 2. Technical yet groovy and melodic.
YES. the guy from Protest is AMAZING. also, I love Brian from A Wilhelm Scream (although they're *technically* a punk rock band). gratuitous tapping video: http://vimeo.com/629705
velvetkevorkian
I'm a shameless metal head, and play in an extreme powercheese band with a touch of prog- link in sig. I want to play in a band that's Cynic crossbred with Wintersun with the drummer from Meshuggah.

Tons of fun but everything was tuned down to drop C# and I *really* needed a five string for it. flap flap flap.
We play mostly in drop B so my bass has a 135 on the top and standard gages on the way down, just makes things a bit tighter. peted
I have been known to play metal. I've got nothing current at the moment, I was in the initial lineup of End Soteria (http://www.myspace.com/endsoteria). My favourite bands for basslines have to be Deftones, Taproot, Mudvayne, Sikth, etc. Though I don't confess to being able to play as well as any of them. If I'm playing in a band with one other guitarist then I tend to get a bit experimental to fill out the sound. When I'm playing along with 2 other guitarists I calm down a bit and try not to steal too many frequencies at once

Gene's Destroyer and Dynasty outfits looked pretty difficult to play in! Bassmurf
Started off liking "poodle" rock then got into metal - Megadeth, Maiden etc then grunge then indie and have now gone back to listening to a bit more metal again! Current faves:- Lacuna Coil Dream Theater Coheed & Cabria (prog metal?!) Pantera Megadeth (J.Lo rocks!) Sabbarf Queensryche (Eddie Jackson - v. underrated) Edited June 5, 2008 by Bassmurf

Yep, I've met him quite a few times..... that pic was taken when he asked us to appear on his TV programme 'Rock School'.... Jase
There's metal in everyone I reckon I used to play some metal, still play a bit now with a covers band but much rather listen to it than play it. I'm an early sort of metal fan, Maiden, Sabbath, etc...that's a bit light weight though, compared to what's on the menu these days

Jono Bolton
Metal's a big part of my background & musical taste, & is a significant influence on my band - but I wouldn't define myself as a metal bassist. Funny, that. Jon.
+1 on that. My band plays more blues and 'Classic Rock' inspired stuff, but our synth/keys player is into his prog-metal like Tool and Isis, whilst I like more brutal stuff. Anyone else like Converge on here? That said, I'll give pretty much anything a shot, but Dan Carter's Rock Show and Mike Davies' Punk Show on a Monday night is pretty much my cup of tea, as opposed to the stuff played on Radio 1 during the day. 12-4am on a Monday night is where it's at!
