I used to own one, and it was one of the best basses I've ever owned. Only reason for moving it on was because I wanted fanned frets. Here in the Midlands though I've never seen anything about the Premium line because I believe the Prestige range are special order only. That's not to say that it'll be impossible to find one, but it might take a while.

I have considered them too, but I do not like gold H/W, hence my choice.

One of my concerns is how they balance?, i.e. neck dive, the necks are made of heavy wood and that titanium adds even more weight.

Also, does anyone know if the neck dimensions & profiles are the same across the whole SR range?

As far as I could tell, they balance really well. The wenge/bubinga neck probably is heavy, but then the profile of it is so slim and comfortable that a lot of that wood is shaved off!

My SR1205 is my gigging and rehearsal bass of choice and has seen off several of my more expensive instruments.

There is no neck dive and the balance, sound and playability is perfect. Mine has a Wenge/Bubinga neck with titanium rods...but weighs in at 8lbs. Not bad for a 5 string I think you will agree.

IMHO thse instruments are superbly well designed, sound fantastic and offer incredible value for money....as usual however the headstock brand name snobs ignore them. Makes them all the better in my eyes.

I play a lowly SR300 & it's the best Bass i've ever owned. I shudder to think of what the top end ones play like.

I'm with you Fumps, I LOVE my Ibanez SR300! I have been eyeing up the SR500s too.

I'd be too scared to take a really expensive bass to a gig!!

I use an SR605 as my backup bass at gigs......such a beautiful bass, so tactile, organic and playable. The SR1205 has all of the good traits and so much more!

I'm thinking of getting an sr500 or 600 i know the 6 is dearer but is it worth the extra?
[/quote]
I believe it is the exact same bass, the only difference being the body wood. The Swamp Ash 605 has a slightly different bottom end response. I prefer the grain pattern on the Ash too...but its six of one half a dozen of another. Both sound great.

I have an sr505 and bought a sr900 but i actually preferred the 505 so i sold on the 900
The setup on the 505 is brilliant and i bought it as my first 5 string dont think i will ever sell it

I've played/tried a few Ibbys. Never known one to neck dive. They're not heavy and they all seem to have a slim, fast neck.
Never known a duff one. Go on your travels and try some. I'm sure you'll find one that ticks the boxes.

The neck/body dimensions are pretty much identical across all SR models, though you can check this on the Ibanez website - they have fairly detailed spec pages for all models. Or at least they used to.

I'm on the hunt for an Ibanez SR4005E Prestige to try, has anyone seen one anywhere?

Guitar Guitar in Epsom had a few, I'd give them a call to check

I tried the premium one in a local shop - it was nice, but I left thinking that the barts available on the prestiege are possibly better choice of pup for the sound. (and I like nordies a lot)

I see you're in Wilts. I live in Swindon and I've got two Prestige Ibanez's, an SR1300 and an SR1305 if you ever want to try them out.

The guy I bought my RH450 from had a SR1205, I played it to try the amp out and ended up asking him more questions about the bass than the amp! Beautiful bass to play, lovely finish, well made, and the low B sounded killer.

Unfortunately for the OP, that's the 4500, not the 4005!

If you can get somewhere to try out any other Prestige, there isn't going to be a huge difference. Especially if you're just wanting one for the looks. And even if you can only try a Premium one out, I'd urge you to! The Prestige is going to be just that bit better. :)

I'm an SR505 user, had mine for about 15 years now.

Other basses have come and gone during that time, but my SR has always remained my 'workhorse'.
If I ever had to replace it, I'd buy another one without any hesitation.

Lovely light body, super slim neck and nicely balanced.

The bass isn't too bad either. :)
