Practical ue for a synth pedal?

I bought one of the Behringer BSY600 Bass Synthesisers, and it's lots of fun, but I can't actually find a use for it!! I've tried rolling back the volume of the effect in comparison with the dry so it's less in your face, but it still sounds like a space invaders game :) I think I may have wanted a envelope filter, I'm going for the bass sound from the jamiroqui track from Godzilla, which is dirty but has something else on it.....

That's a synth effect alright...But it's more of a Fuzzy synth than the synth you will find on the Behringer unit. I find the Crowther Prunes and Custard pedal gets very close to the Deeper Underground sound.

I find my EHX micro synth to be quite useful when used sparingly!! for example ill only whack it on when theres a drum fill and i want a nice bbwwwwaaaaaarrrrrrrp-ching! over it :)

Id like to try the prunes and custard though as the ehx dosnt do fuzzy synth very well. the filters are immense but uts a shame!

I absolutely love the Prunes and Custard...I still regret selling mine. I will have one again, some day!

I was quite excited to see the Behringer BSY600 in the window of a shop recently. Normally if I see a new Behringer pedal I fancy trying I'd just spend the £20 & put it through its paces at home, but as this was £30 and I had the missus with me I thought I'd better try it first. Unfortunately I couldn't get a usable sound out of it. I really wanted to like it - I love my Behringer Bass Limiter pedal, sansamp clone preamp & the acoustic version, plus a stereo pair of mics and a mini mixer, but I couldn't get a single sound out of the bass synth pedal that was in any way usable. I think the chap in the shop was a bit miffed that I didn't buy it, but probably not as miffed as I'd have been had I bought it.

i've got the boss syb-5 and i'm in a similar situation. i only really use it to create synthy swells during the drone sections of the live set.

i'd bought it to use with the drum and bass band i lay with, but it was a bit too in your face for that.

i think it's very much a case of less is more, and i'm sure it's great for your zender-stylee sounds, but if i don't warm to it soon i'll be bunging it up for sale.
I gig regularly with my Akai Deep Impact. Patch 1 gets used for Chaka Khans 'Ain't Nobody' and the chorus/breakdown in Outkast's "Hey Ya" uses Patch 9, the Moog squelch.
I don't know what I was thinking when I sold my Deep Impact :)

Don't despair, the values of the Deep Impact pedals will crash as soon as someone comes up with something better.

Has anyone found anything else that does the Hey Ya sound reasonably well, other than a Deep Impact ??

Get a midi pickup and a Roland XV2020. Ok, a bit more expencive but you'll get far better synth sounds out of that than you will from any bass synth pedal ever produced and ever to be produced.

Of course, if you went down that route you'd be better of just getting a 25 key midi controller instead of the pickup, and sitting it on your amp, but the pickup is the best option if you just *HAVE* to use synth sounds from your bass.

I have several synths I use from my Roland V-bass and pickup (note it is not a midi pickup but a dedicated pickup for each string). The synths track flawlessly as a result and you can play several notes at once because each string is separately processed. It makes playing really juicy synth sounds across the bass a pleasure because you can adjust the volume of each string to match and get the whole thing sounding like a keyboard!

Haha I promise I will do in a bit because I have moved house now and set up my lil bass corner in the lounge... some clips should be easy to rustle up. I will add them to my porn thread when I have done some!

Cheers

P.s I probably sound like a broken record talking about the chuffing Vbass, too!

Let's put it this way - you've get me worn down far enough that I've spoke to Jon Shuker about putting a piezo/midi pickup system on my 18 week overdue 6 string in preparation... just need to find a v-bass now...
