jacmksoncaddy
Morning guys, Just a quick one here. I have a Orange AD200 bought new last December. Its used heavily and pushed hard, but its always left to warm up properly etc. When hitting the low E (especially when dropped to D or C sharp) it makes an intermittent popping noise as you strike the string? All other strings seem ok - just the low end that seems to be an issue. The sound is exactly like when a string touches a pick up magnet (but its not this). Does anyone have any idea? I am running it with two Orange Cabs - a 410 and a 115. I am going on tour in May and I really don't want it letting me down :-/ Any advice is much appreciated! Musicman20
Hi. Have you tried another bass/other cabs/take pedals out of the chain/other cables/other speaker cables? If not, try those first. If that fails, then contact Orange on their UK customer service email. They are very good with warranty issues. it might just be a tube... jacmksoncaddy
I have tried going straight into the amp, i'll try another bass and speaker cable next. Probably should have tried that before posting in all honesty!
Mr. Foxen
Bad valve is first thing I'd expect, can check by dinging the valves with a chopstick, see if one is being noisy, and swap them about with a known good one. Bust solder joint because of all the board mount stuff is next expectation, pretty likely with the way the Oranges are made, so really, its a 'design feature' and part of the 'Orange tone', because it isn't like those heads aren't expensive enough to be made in a way where that is less of a risk.
