4 Strings Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Horrible isn't it, as soon as there are any rumours a company is ditched. I remember a building contractor who were doing well, won a nice big job went to their bank for a loan to carry out the business, perfectly normal. Tut the bank refused them for some reason or other. It somehow got out that they had been refused a loan, it was assumed they were in trouble and had all their current contracts cancelled in case they couldn't complete them. They went under and yet were in a happy position to grow. I hope something similar doesn't happen to DV. Quote
M-Bass-M Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 To add some more positive news, I asked on twitter whether a moblie-friendly site was on its way - "We've something very special in the pipeline for our mobile shoppers this year..." Make of that what you will. A company rumoured to be on the brink wouldn't make statements like that. Quote
Panamonte Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013
DV247 have been consistently useless when I've tried them
I bought 2 basses from them in 2010. One Fender, one Squier - both bought unseen, both good 'uns. No complaints about their service at all. Evidently others haven't had such a positive experience, but I thought I'd offer this by way of balance. Quote

Thurbs Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Pay with a credit card for somthing over £100 and you have nothing to worry about. Quote
charic Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 It'll be a real shame if they go under. They're my first port of call for anything recording based. I know a lot of the guys on a first name basis and they've all been really helpful in the past. Fingers crossed rumours are false. Quote

spacey Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 By insisting that sellers stick to a rrp, they expose sellers to EU competition price fixing rules, remember the vw £18 million fine ? They may have decided that they want freedom to sell at what price they want Quote
spacey Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Another point, the last real usa fender I bought had a neck pocket you could keep gibson heavy picks in, it buzzed when you played. It went straight back. Quote

Dusty Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 It's sad, but true !!! I just hope someone bails them out. There's a lot of good people in there. Fingers crossed. Quote
mart Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Looks like DV247 have just gone into administration, but probably will be rescued by Music Store Cologne: http://www.gear4music.com/news/article/DV247com-owners-go-into-administration/5YP/2013-05-10 Quote

mtroun Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 My ex housemate, who's a manager at one of the stores, just told me. It's his birthday as well, natch. Though he's already had offers from five companies who want him to work for them. My experience of buying from DV has been nothing but positive in the past, I think it's just a sign of the times. Prunesquallor Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Anyone else seen this? http://www.dv247.com/page/bigger-and-better Puts paid the rumour of them going bust, it seems. Quote

M-Bass-M Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Ah, so they've been taken over by a German firm, with most of the stores shutting down: http://bit.ly/11Ycx6g Hence why they're now stocking Fender and also Sandberg. Edited May 11, 2013 by M-Bass-M Quote
Musicman20 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Could potentially be the start of price wars (those Sandberg prices...wow!) and maybe the sign of what's to come (eg maybe the UK will start having huge superstores owning most the music shops...who knows). Quote

Might save a few quid I suppose, but I'd still rather pay a few quid to go to my local shop. Quote
