gypsyjazzer
Regarding an extension cabinet would there be a loss of sound/quality between a 10 meter cable and a 5 meter cable?
mike257
I'd be surprised if you or I could hear a difference. If its just an extension cab though, surely just grabbing a little 1m one would be ideal?
deepbass5
I'm with Mike, but assume you want a cab either side of the Drummer. Having made up my own I think the speakon can take 4mm cable max, so go for that, tin the ends with solder before screwing down. I also have a heavey duty PA extension cable I use on large stages, 4mm cores the rubber outer sheath is about 10 - 12mm dia, no probs with the sound there. getting a quality cable is the main aim. I used see through flat twin hi-fi cable from Richersounds on my bass cabs. Its oxygen free you can get all sizes and you can buy it by the metre. JapanAxe
I used to use a long Planet Waves jack-to-jack speaker cable and put my extension cab next to the drummer in one particularly awkward venue. The drummer never complained about the sound quality!
bertbass
Sorry old chaps but tinning the ends before screwing down is a recipe for disaster. The screws will just cut through the wire. Best left naked.

[/quote] No difference at that distance. Why do you want to put a cab 10 meters away from the amp? Bass frequencies can easily fill the room from a single source. There would probably be no improvement in sound by putting an extension cab on the other side of the stage and you might get some frequency cancellations in the room if the distance is enough for both cabs be working against each other.
