chilievans Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I have a rockbass corvette which has now become redundant due to my recent bb2004 purchase the question is what to do with it? Do I: 1, keep it as a just in case kind of spare 2, sell it 3, rip the frets out of it Having never tried a fretless I'm not sure about number 3 but at the same time very intrigued Help Quote
Lozz196 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Having a backup is always useful. You never know when a pot on your main bass may start playing up, or worse, a bass gets stolen or knackered in a bar-fight/car-crash. Quote
discreet Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 If you've still got your Shuker Jazz, then sell the Warwick. No point having it collecting dust otherwise. PS: I've started contradicting everything Lozz says, have you noticed?? Quote
Grangur Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Having got used to the Shuker and the bb2004 will you ever pick up the Rockbass without feeling it's not really at the level you're used to? If you have 2 already how much do you need the Rockbass as a spare? Quote
Fat Rich Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Sell the Rockbass, buy a cheap fretless Ripping frets out doesn't always end well. Quote
badboy1984 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Always have around 2 bass similar for backup purpose. Sell or rip the frets out is up to you, i personally would sell and scout around for a fretless. Quote
chilievans Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 hmmm So defretting seems out then Quote
chilievans Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 I've had a look at a few threads on defretting and it doesn't look too hard Quote
Matt P Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I'd go for trading it for a fretless if that's what you want, especially if you could get one of the cheaper Yamaha bb fretless basses. Failing that what about stringing it differently, B-D maybe or with nylon flats for a different tone. Matt Quote
chilievans Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Interesting idea Matt More food for thought Quote
jezzaboy Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Man up and rip the frets out if you dont need the cash from a sale. It might send you down a different road....And is dead easy to do. After all, it`s only a Rockbass, what have you got to lose Quote

chilievans Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Well it only cost me £150 so I think I'll go for it How hard can it be ;-) Quote

Lets just say a car crash would have been more effective... Quote
Black Coffee Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 My attempt at defretting ended up a train wreck. Trade for a fretless and avoid the "i wish i hadnt started this" line of thought. Mine was only a cheap esp but its now only fit for firewood. Dont wana get into how it ended badly but it started good and went downhill too far in too stop. If you wana try something different, defret carefully from 12th fret up to 24 or however high it goes then you have a hybrid. Quote
Matt P Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205819-vintage-icon-mrjp-jaco-pastorius-fretless-l150/ no connection to the seller but this is a great price for a fantastic bass Quote
chilievans Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 I'm not feeling so confident anymore Quote
Smythe Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Leave a fret removal to a professional. Get a squire jazz fretless or a yamaha rbx fretless. Won't cost you any more than £300. Quote
