Drummer Carl Palmer, of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, says the idea of playing on a cruise had obvious attractions for the fans and the musicians.

"They're on holiday, cruising with their favourite band. That's what they get out of it. There we are in the morning and you can see us having breakfast."

Rather sweet, really.

"Did you see Carl? He had two eggs this morning."

I'm not quite sure what the negative side is of this.....

Option 1) Go and see some of your favourite bands in the British "summer" whilst stood in the middle of some muddy field, eating dodgy food and having to negotiate the "lavatories" and kipping in a damp tent.... :(

OR

Option 2) Go and see some of your favourite bands in the sunshine (I needed to check the dictionary for the meaning of this word...lol), eat good food, clean lavs, good sleep and meet the guys up close.... :D

I'm going on holiday soon and will probably have to do some serious searching to find good live music of the non "Agadoooo" variety....lol. The "Muso-Cruiso" option sounds more appealing.

Yeah, Jam cruise has been going for years and that's full of Phish fans and hippies. Still a great idea if I ever found a cruise ship with 30% of my favourite bands Id probably go.

I pray for the day that someone organises a cruise with bands like Jackie-O-M*****f***er, God Speed You Black Emperor and Tortoise.

If they ever do, i'm there waiting on the quayside with my Captain's hat on at a jaunty angle, lifejacket in hand. :)

I've never been on a cruise, but I can imagine I would quite enjoy this sort of thing with the right bands. The bands have a good time and enjoy a cruise, you get the benefits of a good cruise holiday as well as seeing the bands performing small shows.

Better than paying £90 to see them at a muddy festival or a booming, echoing enormodome!

I couldn't afford the cruise at the moment but certainly wouldn't have any objections to it

Maybe if they did a budget version of it like a butlins weekender ....

Blues cruises in the Caribbean starting from Tampa have been running for over 20 years.

A friend of mine used to go on every one. Delbert McClinton runs one these days and Little Feat run an equivalent on dry land in Jamaica.

I haven’t seen a Rock one before but it’s a great idea.

They do.

For the last 20 years Boogaloo Productions have run all sorts of Blues, Rock and Roll and other weekends at various Warner camps and Hotels around the UK.

Never really been tempted by a cruise but if I had the resources I'd be tempted by one of these. I recall Francis Dunnery has organised something like this in the past where he also did guitar masterclasses in addition to performing. It's sensible aiming it at the nostalgia acts as their fanbase is more likely to have the time and money to do this sort of thing. Got to make a living somehow.

Ahh, but which cruise is best for metal?

I'd say Costa Concordia for rock.

There's also a heavy metal version of this that's been going for a couple of years, and apparently is really successful!

One of these days I'm going to have to go. Looks too much fun not too. What's really clever is every band plays 3 times so that you have a chance to see every band playing (there are 3 stages).

Never been interested in going on a cruise as I think it looks dull as hell. But with the right bands that sounds like a fantastic idea.

Make it all inclusive & I'm there lol
