stingrayPete1977 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 How can we as musicians slag off simon cowell and all the reality nonsense then diregard a band if the bass player wears glasses?! Quote
rOB Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Contacts for stage. Anything that helps my confidence is good Plus better peripheral vision. Quote
skej21 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Contacts for normal gigging and glasses for reading gigs. Can't read in contacts and low light as the small, fast eye movements make my contacts slip and/or go sticky. Really annoying and I find the same thing happens with gaming sometimes too. Quote
EssentialTension Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I need my glasses to see what's happening on stage so I wear them. Why woudln't you wear them if you need them? Glasses are cool these days aren't they? Quote
dincz Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Never used to wear them on stage in my previous life as a vocalist. Part vanity and also felt less terrified if I couldn't see the crowd. Quote
Monckyman Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013
I've just been informed that I will be wearing some decade appropriate specs when I dep for an 80's band at the weekend. They will have clear glass (hopefully) but I have no idea how I'm going to get on playing wearing them!
Pics needed for accurate assessment of indignity! Quote
paulmcnamara Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Without my glasses I can't see the neck of the bass clearly! Although I don't need to look at the neck all the time, I like to see it clearly when I do look. As regards Buddy Holly and John Lennon their glasses are part of their iconic image..... as distinct from practical considerations? Quote
chris_b Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Actually BH, Lennon and the Big O were blind without their specs. Quote
Mikey R Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 All the best looking people wear glasses. Just tie them to your head, you can headbang all night. Quote
dougal Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I prefer to wear contacts: I have played in glasses but they tend not to sit very well on my sweaty face. If I didn't have contacts, I'd have to wear them. Blind as a bat, me. Quote
discreet Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I don't wear glasses on stage OR for rehearsal. I don't like wearing them at all, really. They make me look like a sinister foster parent, or possibly some sort of paedophile/librarian. I am none of these things, of course. Well OK, a bit sinister. Mainly at night. Quote
Bilbo Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I wear them because I read charts. Never considered contacts. Not that vain. Quote
Dave Vader Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I wear mirrored sunglasses sometimes, so i can ogle the girls without them noticing.... Does that count? Quote

Gust0o Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I wear mine - after all, being able to see where the stage is, is a very good start If it's looking a bit wild, or I'm moving about a bit, I will ditch them to the top of my amp. Quote
mep Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013
Always. Can't see jack without 'em, and wouldn't want to miss a jugfest..
Indeed. We gig to watch the audience, while they watch and listen to us. Quote
discreet Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 (edited)
I tried putting coloured lenses in once and was blown away by how hard it is to put the f***ers in!
Tell me about it. I tried 'em once. A painful nightmare to get 'em in, then it turned out I was allergic to the solution they were kept in, then the frigging 'optician' scratched my eyeballs taking them out and I was obliged to spent the rest of the day at Moorfields Eye Hospital. My mincers have never been the same since. Great fun! Edited April 24, 2013 by discreet Quote
L_Bass_Dog85 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 As a hardcore glasses wearer (eyesight has been crap since I was 5) I do wear them sometimes but prefer to wear contacts when on stage or general use. Saying that I know I am sexy whether I wear glasses or not despite I cannot see past my nose without either! I am not vain, honest haha! Quote
