sbrag Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 As stairway to heaven is banned in all guitar shops in the world what is the bass equivelent as an overplayed riff. My first thought is good times / rappers delight Quote

Ziphoblat Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Hysteria played badly with no distortion etc gets my vote. Quote
DorsetBlue Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Perhaps that is why Muse wrote Panic Station, you then get them and slap (not pop) together in one package. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I guess it depends on your age and the circles you move in but I clicked on this thread thinking The Chain. Seems to be in the lead so far. I suspect people over a certain age think that & the younger players think Muse. Quote
the_skezz Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Schism by Tool or For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica, IME. I do mostly know/see rock players though. Quote
Mykesbass Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 (edited)
Smoke On The Water comes to mind!
Sorry, original post possibly a little bit confrontational - What I should have said is I don't think anyone would notice if you played this as the bassline isn't particularly obvious. achknalligewelt Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I do hear Money by Pink Floyd a lot. Is that common elsewhere, or is Leicester just a hotbed of 7/4 time? For my part, I always play Girls and Boys or Rio, just to keep the shop dudes on their toes. It helps in this discussion that I don't like either Muse or Fleetwood Mac. Quote
charic Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 If you want to drive them mad in a music shop then Hell Aint A bad place to be by ACDC could probably do the job Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I'd go with random slap & pop licks - perhaps I just particularly notice it as it's not a style I've ever liked, but it does seem to be the first thing people do when they feel the need to demonstrate how good they are to the shop assistant! (Next time, I might just begin with Boris The Spider and see whether the Mark King wannabe across the room can keep a straight face) Quote
clauster Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013
Dune Tune - Level 42 (during the 80s)
I remember this being banned in the Bass Centre at some point in the 80s Quote
