Okay well as the thread suggests, I am interested to know what peoples favourite upright bassists are; If you can include a favourite album, track, video etc. That would be cool;

I'll start:

Avishai Cohen;
Album: Seven Seas.
Track: About A Tree

This is a silly question to ask here on "Bass Chat" when everyone knows that the answer is....Bilbo !!! ;)

Mine (after Bilbo of course !!!) is Dave Holland.

Most of the above, along with Paul Chambers and some of Ron Carters stuff.

Check this out - 4 DB's sawing & Pizzing away !.... There is a 'real' Bass face going on with the Pizz player.
Night in Tunisia......

Another vote for Danny Thompson. So many great tracks to choose from but I'm particularly fond of his work on David Syvian's Ink in the Well from Brilliant Trees.

Absolutely love his playing on that - was the first time I heard Danny back in the mid-80s when I was a Japan fan and I fell in love with his singular, buzzy tone

The thing that still astonishes me about him is that every time I think I know where I've 'heard him first', it turns out that he's played on something I've heard earlier.

Influence No1: Danny Thompson. Clarky has already posted my favourite Danny moment, so let's move on....

Influence No2: Ali Friend of Red Snapper, Clayhill and Beth Orton.
