pazsunday
Can anyone give me any advice on getting a Japanese P bass? Cheers
bassjamm
Just a quick one to say that www.fareastguitars.co.uk import the Jap non-export models, they always seem to look pretty tasty!
Machines
You'd be better off with http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk - Far East doesn't have a lot of stock.
Clarky
As per Machines reply, I bought a Fender CIJ P bass off Guitar Emporium (sold on to noirbass on the Forum). I recommend them. Know what they are doing and usually have several in stock as well as ability to import the precise model you want.
pazsunday
I've found one for £255, looks the nuts. How do they compare to the USA bass?
Clarky
I've found one for £255, looks the nuts. How do they compare to the USA bass?
According to most reviews I read before purchasing, the Japanese basses - especially the CIJ not-for-export models - are at least as good quality as their US counterparts (some say even better). The P bass I had from Guitar Emporium was beautifully put together and nice to play - only sold as I had too many basses including two Japanese P basses (the other one is a slightly beat-up white 1990s bass, shown on my signature)! LukeFRC
lovely necks, well my one there are cheap ones with jap pups and basswood and good ones with alder/ash and US pups, work out which one you are getting
Musky
If it's the one on ebay, the lack of obvious grain makes it look like it's a basswood model.
kdphysio
i've got a MIJ PB on the 'bay at the mo (vintage white), bought from guitaremporium. it is made from basswood, sounds great & looks the nuts! (bought on a whim, but just can't do the neck thing!...so i'm sticking with my jazz & sterling).
Clarky
Word of warning - if its an eBay bass that ships from Japan, not only will shipping add a chunk to the price but you get taxed too so not as much of a bargain as you'd think (same is true for some nice-looking Japanese Fenders listed on eBay that ship from Switzerland which is outside the EU)
BigRedX
Go to Japan. Not only will you get to try a huge variety of basses out in person, but you'll also get a holiday of a lifetime at the same time!
