Stealth
Help Yes I know there isnt a 5 but.... I love the sound of my 4003 for it huge bottom and and growl but i need a five string to cover the material im playing. im not in love with the feel of the rick so thats not an issue. Any idea on something that will fit the bill ?
dannybuoy
They did make a 5-string but good luck finding one: http://www.rickresou...ss5strings.html You could also do a conversion: http://www.3dentourage.com/425/425.htm and http://www.talkbass....ng-bass-946118/ Or if you don't need the high notes, just use the bottom 4 strings from a 5-string set tuned B-E-A-D! iiipopes
Contact Ric5 on either the Rickenbacker factory forum or the RickResource enthusiasts' forum. He has converted 4003's from 4-string to 5-string and knows as much as the rest of us together that will answer your questions.
jonsmith
They do come up on RickResource (or eBay) from time to time. It's even worth posting a wanted message on RR. That's what I did a few years ago & was offered two 4003s5 basses within 48 hours. The string spacing on these is a little narrower than is usual on 5 strings, but I got used to it pretty quickly. The sound is slightly different to a standard 4003 as there is a toaster in the neck position (and I think the bridge pickup is different too, but can't remember). I ended up with this lovely Jetglo at a reasonable price, shipped from Florida. Edited May 1, 2013 by jonsmith
