I think Clarky was pretty much there, though I`d remove the bridge & pickup covers. There`s just something about a sunburst/tort/rw jazz with blocks & binding.

Also a big fan of the Sei Flamboyant. The only thing that's stopped me ordering one is a flaw in design. It slips off the leg when playing seated because the bottom horn is too short and curves inwards. Unfortunately the builder will not change the design.

This recent creation by Jens Ritter is absolutely stunning in the flesh. Pictures really don't do it justice. . .

This close-up of the headstock gives a better idea of the amazing fingerboard:

That looks 'liquid'! Beautiful looking thing but not sure I could imagine gigging it down the Dog and Duck! ;)

I also find these Atlansia basses very eye-catching. I'd love to try one

Stunning headstock design:

That headstock is such a badly conceived design I can't understand how someone could construct a bass without correcting the issues about the tuner post recess.

Well, I think he has! Look carefully: he's got metal around the recesses so they won't wear with string friction and he's got a clever string retainer. What are the 'issues' you are talking about?

Trying to get the string wound onto the post due to the recess seems like harder work than it needs to be, the recess may have a metal bezel but the strings are still resting on the bezels and that's hardly conducive to a great design. I realise that if this is your only bass then you'd get used to which tuner does which string but the D/G tuners being the 'wrong' way around (in comparison to every other producer) seems again to be an ill thought out design. On that pics some of the tuners look angled back as per Warwick and others straight, it seems almost that it is a case of 'we'll put them where ever they fit' kind of design philosophy! :o

Patently these are all just my views but looking at this as Joe Public looking to buy an instrument it would put me right off. :D

More pics here

I'm not normally a fan of Singlecuts and I've while the workmanship is amazing not really wanted to own a Ritter, but got to admit this one is quite something!

I had a reserve on it for 24 hours but decided that I couldn't justify the money on a fretless :(

You could certainly have your eye out with one of those.

Beautiful plumage, though.

TBH while the headstock looks stunning, from a mechanical PoV, it's way over-engineered. All those recessed tuners and string retainers could be done away with simply by angling the headstock back at a sensible angle. Sometimes the simplest solutions really are the best.

And here's my positive contribution to this thread. Pagelli:

One string too many but gorgeous. I was considering throwing a Streamer into the mix but Spector/NS imitation aside, it just wouldn't stand up to some of these works of art. ;)

Yep, I agree with what you and Warwickhunt are saying in principal. I just thought it looked pretty groovy.

I like this sort of thing (the Carl Thompson inspired design):

Designed by Les Claypool and made by luthier Dan Maloney.

Les sold it on eBay for $50,000, the proceeds going to his 2-year-old nephew, who has leukemia.
Good on yer, Les.

LC is going to sell this bass at an 'affordable' price according to an interview I read. If you go to his website it says its basically still not in production and there's a link to register so they will send update details http://www.lesclaypool.com/news/

Saddened to learn that Les's little nephew didn't make it. :(
