Thanks! (I think)

My favourite of the basses I own is this one:

That has sensational looks by anyone's standards.

Some very nice basses on display in this thread.

Certainly are! And also demonstrates very clearly that there's nowt as queer as folk, there's no accounting for taste, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, one mans' meat is another man's poison, it would be boring if everyone liked the same thing and your mileage may vary!! :D

The oxidised patina is incredible.

I don't mind putting up a Spector as an example. They have some fantastic curves and there's hardly a straight angle on the instrument. The grain on this one is on the verge of being OTT but I like it.

The Fodera Beez Elite appears to be no longer made, but it has some very elegant lines.

I like this :

Rickenbacker Blackstar . Only 200 were ever made back in 1988/89 . When I first started playing the Rickenbacker was the bass I coveted more than any other . I spent many hours of my young life gazing at pictures of black Rickenbackers , and this particular model takes a classic design and makes it even more beautiful . Unfortunately , a Rickenbacker may be a great sounding and gorgeous looking bass , but it just doesn't suit me as a bass to play - the shape of the neck and the abscence of any taper , along with the fact that I keep making the strings hit the pickups' polepieces and making an annoying click mean that I have never owned a Rick , but it doesn't stop my oggling the aesthetic perfection of these special basses .

My Series II Alembic is pretty gorgeous I think.

Not been a huge Alembic fan in the past, but not gonna lie, that is a beautiful looking bass! A hell of a lot of knobs though!

Thanks for your comment and yeah a lot of knobs to tweak to change sound so not my first call stage bass at the moment. There are two sets of three knobs, (volume, LP-filter and Q control), one set for each pickup then master volume and pickup selector switch.

[attachment=150517:ConsatCustomA.jpg][attachment=150518:ConsatCustomB.jpg][attachment=150519:ConsatCustomC.jpg][attachment=150520:DivaCustom.jpg]I just felt compelled to add to the list of the weird and wonderful earth shakers listed here, as they are seldom mentioned... Germany's Marleaux basses, with the Diva presenting stunning design & workmanship and the Consat being a well-balanced deviation from the long-established J's & P's...

Ah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All designers and luthiers are trying to make instrumental statements that would lift them above the hey stalks. In the end, every bass has its place according to music genre, stage set-up, production requirements and transitional disposition.
What is important here is that the instrument will not work against you and inhibit your musical expression. If you have to fight it, no matter how great it looks, then its a sh*te instrument.
A good design should aid you in expressing yourself and allow you to externalise through your hands what your mind and soul are hearing, and it doesn't have to be "boutique" to allow for that.
Like Marcus Miller once said, an upmarket instrument won't necessarily make you a better musician, but it should help you get there sooner!
