What's everyone make of this? I know very little about these but it looks a bit suspect to me, no pictures of headstock except by request, and a very interesting 'custom made scratchplate'..?

Well, I've asked for the headstock piccies, see what happens. eBay stop you from sending your email address to people now, so I had to concoct a word game to get the message through.

Something about it isn't right, but quite a lot of it is, so not sure.

In the meantime, check out this '66 EB-0 on flyguitars.com and see what you think: http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1966gibsonEB0.php

Yes I agree it looks odd, it looks like its been stained and the pickup cover looks too large - although the pickup itself and ground plate and rout look fine. Perhaps its the angle? A bit of a mistake missing the obvious headstock picture - hmmm, curiouser and curiouser. Its not too far from me and I asked for pics too - we will see.

Not sure if you can attach pictures both ways, but I've taken to sending a picture of my email address.

Edit: looked at bass, looks like it has been sanded back fairly aggressively.

Well, make up your own mind:

I think that it is probably real, but been completely refinished (including the headstock) at some point, hence the rather wonky attempt to redo the logos etc. Will require a lot of work.

The machineheads are correct for an early 60s as is the bridge and 'bell' truss rod cover but that nut? :(

I know, but perhaps the nut was replaced. The bad stuff is easily explainable. As I said before, it's probably real, but it's had a hell of a time of it and would take a LOT of work to restore.

Yes the nut is certainly a replacement. Would be a fun project at the right price - wonder whats under that massive scratchplate?
