David1978
Hi, I have a 1996 5-string Corvette. It is amazing to play, but I have always struggled with a noisy output. Local repair shops say nothing is wrong with shielding, wiring etc, but recording engineers always complain when I take it into studio. The bass has passive MEC pickups and preamp. The question is: would I get rid of the noise by replacing the preamp, the pickups or both with active versions? I've got an extra set of active pups I bought off ebay, but I'm wondering whether to go ahead with an active preamps - either MEC, Bartolini or Aguilar. Or should I forget working on the guitar I've got and get a different one? Any thoughts? Thanks.
charic
Trying to fit a new MEC circuit is probably going to cost more than the value of the bass believe it or not. Where are you based? There might be someone local that can be recommended to you to have a "proper" look at it
David1978
What about an Aguilar or Bartolini? They're not too dear. I'm up in the wilds of Scotland. Close to Dundee.
