Hi all,

I'm looking for somewhere to take a bass for a set-up and to have a nut re-attached (still in one piece, just came unstuck). I'm in Leeds but could travel a bit. Never needed to get an instrument maintained before. Does anyone have any experiences with a good luthier/tech that I could take the bass to for the work I mentioned doing that isn't too far from me? Would rather not risk it with somebody from a google search. Cheers.

I don't know much about repairmen in Leeds , but if you are prepared to travel a short way to Rippon , Jim Fleeting is a properly qualified repairer who really knows his job , and is a very nice guy too :

If you can get to Keighley, I use Tony at Aire Valley Guitars (tel: 01535 600202 / http://www.airevalley-guitars.co.uk/) for stuff like that - top bloke, knows his stuff & very reasonable!

Alpher instruments in saltair - about 2 min walk from the station and awesome awesome guys - the fretjob they did on my warwick was out of this world - so so good.
Their new own brand strings are also worth a punt too!

I can heartily recommend Ben at Beej guitars.
I've worked with Ben on many tours across Europe and the UK with him in his capacity as Guitar and bass tech and he has a wonderful and comprehensive workshop in Leeds that offers all levels of work from new nuts to new paint jobs.

I'll give a good word for Shane Haigh (String Surgeon) in Horbury. He's been doing guitar repairs for over 20 years and taught for a while on the instrument building course at Leeds that people like Jim Fleeting graduated from.

Shane's done a couple of bits for me and his work is bang on - down side is he can talk for England and you'll be there until you die but if you don't mind that you can get him on 01924 277930

Small world, I think you've seen my band play a couple of times at the Bankhouse in Pudsey (assuming this is the same Andy from the Cardinals in Leeds I know anyway).

I can vouch for Lee Laverack too. He did some work on a couple of my basses back when I lived in Leeds.
