Very good. I have two in different EB basses both paired with Nordstrand MM2s. It isn't pre-EB (I have two of those too ) but certainly gets a lot closer than the stock EB.

I wouldn't hesitate. Just go for it.

Yeah. It sounds pretty decent. Ive got it with an actual stingray pickup that i got from here. And im pretty sure its nailed the sound. Its also got the treble like you can hear Tim play on RATM's "bullet in the head"

When I was going to buy my first one (yes, "first" ) I exchanged a few emails with John. He told me he based the preamp in his own '76 Stingray and sent me some pictures of his rig to measure and compare both... Very nice guy to deal with and an awesome preamp. Personally, I'd add the midsweep module to the 2-band and you get a truly amazing preamp (that's what you get in his "3-band" MMSR: a standard 2-band plus midsweep, winning combination)

To be honest I like the simplicity of the 2 band, just thinking of either this or the nordstrand 2b-mm for my 'cutlass' replica
