thebrig
I know this a bass forum, but I just want to see if any of you wonderful BassChatters can help me. I have spent the past couple of years trying to put together a no-nonsense R & B band, that plays music in the style of Dr Feelgood, The Inmates, The Pirates, Nine Below Zero etc.... Our line-up is a drummer, a great guitarist who plays just like “Wilko”, and myself on bass, but we are having a problem finding a blues harp player, I’ve been advertising on all the usual sites for at least two years now, and the only replies I’ve had, are from people who live a couple of hours drive away. So, I was wondering if any of you guys/gals know of any harp players who might be interested in a band like ours. We are based in and around the St Albans area, and will be looking to gig around Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties. Thanks.
FinnDave
I'm playing with one this evening, but reckon he is also a couple of hours away from St Albans.

skankdelvar
There's always the other approach. Find a good frontman, sign him up and tell him to learn the harp. Could very well take less than two years.
(Dr Feelgood) had already been scouting for a replacement ... An enquiry was made, and Kane agreed to rehearse with the band... the rehearsals went well, and soon after, everyone agreed that (he) would be an excellent choice. It was only at a later rehearsal, that Kane questioned why Phil Mitchell kept pointing out the "harmonica breaks" as he didn't play harmonica. The answer came ... from Kevin Morris who replied, "Well you'd better learn ... we've got gigs in a week!" thebrig
Strangely, today I was told by a very well known harp player who also teaches harp, that it takes about three years for a novice to reach intermediate level, so add that to the two years already gone, that's five years just to sort out a harp player. Lozz196
I think they`re all at home sulking after bands started tuning to Eb to stop them getting up on stage & jamming uninvited On a serious note though, once your band is up & running Brig, keep us informed - would love to see a band doing this type of music, and nice & local for me. That said, Brilleaux was a fantastic frontman but no Charlie Musselwhite or Kim Wilson. I'm sure almost anyone could master the harp part for 'Going Back Home' in a month or so. Another option is to do it yourself. He got himself locked in the (outdoor) artists bogs at the Duchess of York in Leeds and was having a pretty serious panic attack about it when the bass player from the support band - yours truly - climbed in through the tiny window with a screwdriver and rescued him.
